Scheveningen - Noorderstrand : I spend so many hours tanning, relaxing, playing or dancing at the Noorderstrand in Scheveningen, that I decided to make pictures of the beach clubs there and pay tribute to them.
Clubs Whoosah and Soomers are my favorite, but Billabong and Culpepper are excellent too!

Petra's first exposition : Late Winter 2007, Petra Oldengarm celebrated her first real exposition of her photos at the museum of the jail city Veenhuizen. This town was used as a role model for prisoners and the houses of employees had moral phrases on them to show prisoners the "proper way". Of course, prisoners rarely came outside and most of them were illiterate anyway... The houses are still used and the town still has a jail nearby.

Petra's self-portraits - the making of : One of Petra's assignments for the Photo Academy in Amsterdam was to create 7 self-portraits of subcharacteristics. It was a major undertaking that took one entire Sunday from 730am 'til 930pm in a old ready-for-restauration villa in Wassenaar (the Beverly Hills of Den Haag). Here are the making-of pictures with Petra, Josee, Dirk and me...

Mijn vlakke land : "Mijn vlakke land" (My flat country) is a song by Jacques Brel about Vlamingen and the Netherlands. It has always brought tears to my eyes when I hear that song whenever I'm abroad for a longer time, because it so symbolises my home country.
In an attempt to show you what I mean, I took these pictures from the speeding train in early Spring on a grey and overcast day (April 2004)

Estate "Oud Poelgeest" : In Oegstgeest, near Leiden, there is an ancient estate with castle and grounds that have been converted into a conference center with small hotel. It's gorgeous and practically restored into it's original state. The estate is called "Oud Poelgeest" and very well suited to escape the city and flee into nature.
